Diet ....

Tilly's been on her new diet for about 4 months now. I stopped feeding her canned food and mixer about two years ago, but have been experiementing with different complete dry foods ever since. I really want to get them onto the BARF diet, but my family do not agree with it, and it will take me a long time to sway them (It can be done - I was told I could never have a dog, and now have two!).
At the start of last year, I found a new food called 'Lathams'. It was advertised within the Community Pack Leader's, as it was a sponser for the Dog Whisperer at the time. Obviously, the advertisments and connotations alone would not make me go out and feed it to my dogs (we all know about Pedigree!). I researched it online, and the ingredients looked good. No artfiical rubbish or chemicals were added. Here is the compostition for the Adult Large breed:
Turkey Meat Meal (26%), Rice (26%), Oats, Barley, Sugar Beet Pulp (5%), Chicken Fat, Linseed (2.5%), Digest, Seaweed (1.25%), Alfalfa (0.5%), Potassium Chloride, Chicory (0.1%), Calcium Carbonate, Glucosamine (0.05%), Chondroitin (0.03%), Yucca Schidigera Extract (0.01%).
They have been thriving on it! Their 'business' is no longer loose or stinking, and I think their overall energy levels have upped. It is also affordable, because I honestly don't think I could justify spending £50 (or however much some of the brands are) on a bag of food to last a month or two.
Lathams then released a 'Light' version, to aid in weight loss. I purchased this for Tilly, as she did need to loose a bit in order to be light enough for her agility (and overall health). I have recently reduced the amount I'm giving her per meal by about 2/3.
She has definatley lost weight, that is clear to see. I just want her to loose a bit more before I switch her back to the normal adult food.
I don't agree with feeding totally dry, so I use 'Nature's Diet/Menu' as a topper. They also get raw bones etc. Obviously, this food will not be right for every dog, but it is for mine, and I reccomend it!
